Erami Carpet — 90 Years of Qom Silk Rug Artistry
The story of Erami Carpet is deeply rooted in more than a century of Persian rug-knotting tradition. It begins with Haj Mahmoud Erami, born in 1913 in Kashan, who moved to Qom as a child — the city still regarded today as the heart of the world’s finest silk rugs. He learned the art of rug knotting early and, by the age of twenty, had already become one of the most respected masters of his time.
He was among the first to promote rug production in the villages surrounding Qom — including Khalajestan, Mansour Abad, and Varzaneh — spreading the traditional craft throughout the region. Through his tireless dedication, he laid the foundation for what would later become one of Iran’s most important rug workshops. Haj Mahmoud Erami passed away in 1986 at the age of 73, leaving behind a considerable legacy of skill, ethics, and cultural responsibility.
His son, Haj Hossein Erami (1946–2016), carried the family tradition forward. Having grown up in his father’s workshops, he mastered the craft to perfection. Under his leadership, Erami Carpet became one of the country’s most respected brands — known for quality, integrity, and social commitment. Hossein Erami was not only a gifted entrepreneur but also a champion of his community: he created jobs for many immigrants and built a network of workshops that kept traditional rug knotting alive.
After his passing, his three sons — Mohammad, Mehdi, and Mahmoud Erami — followed in his footsteps. Each brought a modern education and fresh perspective to the family business — in engineering, interior design, and computer science. By blending tradition with innovation, they carried the Erami name into a new era, developing new patterns, color combinations, and structures without losing the soul of the classic Qom silk rug.
A notable milestone came in 2019, when an Erami silk rug was presented as a gift to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, delivered through the Tehran Chamber of Commerce — a symbol of the brand’s international recognition, and of Persian rug artistry more broadly.
