Description

Overview

A Tabriz from India, measuring 250 × 298 cm. It covers approximately 7.45 m², or 8.2' × 9.8'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.

Construction

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 10-12mm.

Size and placement

The rug is rectangular. At this size the rug defines the room rather than accenting it.

Fineness of the knotting

The stated knot density is 300,000–399,999 knots/m². Knotting at this density allows detailed drawing and soft transitions between colours.

On the colourway

The stated colourway is multicolour. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.

Age

Stated condition: new.
