Overview

A Tabriz from Iran, measuring 75 × 303 cm. The covered area is about 2.27 m² (2.5' × 9.9'). Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.

Construction

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 12-15mm.

Size and placement

A format for a smaller room, or the area directly in front of a sofa.

Fineness of the knotting

The stated knot density is 400,000–499,999 knots/m². Knotting at this density allows detailed drawing and soft transitions between colours.

How it reads

Colour is recorded as blue / Türkis. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
